Control Consoles

The i-CONTROL is a fieldbus powered control system and utility console. It is used to control processes in bioreactor systems from laboratory scale to pilot plant and  production scale. Due to the variety of I/O offered, it also is possible to apply the i-CONTROL in a Dual bioreactor set-up as well as in a Quad (4 fermenters) configuration.

The modular design allows the system to be used with a wide range of industry standard control platform (like Siemens, Allan Bradley and Delta V).

Advantages of the fieldbus technology:

  • Standard Solution
  • Reliable
  • Supplier independent
  • Local Control and Display
  • Integrates with factory automation system
  • Cost effective
  • 21CFR part 11 compliant

The PLC Bio Console supports auxiliaries (pumps, gas supply, temperature actuators, and additional inputs) and needs a 3-phase power supply.

When applied in combination with SIP/CIP bioreactors, the controller will be incorporated in a cabinet on the bioreactor skid and called i-CONTROL and can be highly automated for sterilization and cleaning procedures. The control system can be based on an Allen Bradley PLC, a Siemens PLC or Emerson Delta V.

The Human Interface is a color touch panel that offers clear data presentation and easy access to all process functions.

The console communicates with BioXpert or 3rd party SCADA via OPC.

The system is designed to comply with the following international standards

  • GAMP 4
  • ISA S88
  • 21 CFR part 11

 Main functions of the
i-CONTROL are:

  • Process control
  • Data collection
  • Alarming
  • Authorization
  • Sterilization
  • Calibration
  • Data presentation

The SCADA software package BioXpert XP is used for data acquisition and control of all described bioreactors and fermenters via ethernet. Via BioXpert XP, statements can be made for advanced feeding strategy, OTR calculations etc.

The fermentor system is designed for microbial applications, but can be easily upgraded to future changes in process requirements.
