BioXpert XP

BioXpert XP is Applikon's high end supervisory control and data-acquisition software for optimization and automation of biotechnological processes on laboratory, pilot plant and production scale. BioXpert XP is developed in compliance with the international accepted standards such as the ISA 88 batch standard GAMP guidelines and can be used for cGMP processes in compliance with 21 CFR part 11.

Additional process information
With every experiment a cultivation description page can be added. This page contains information on the organism and the medium used. Also start time and estimated stop time of the experiment are listed on this page.

Variables
BioXpert XP supports On-line variables, Off-line variables, Constants, and Formulas. Per on-line variable a sample interval can be defined ranging between 1 second and several hours.

Graph display
The graphic data display can be edited online. Parameters can be added and removed during the culture run. Scaling of both X-axis and Y-axis can easily be modified. On-line and off-line data can be combined on one chart. Previous experiments can be compared to current fermentation runs with the reporting module. Multiple graphs can be defined per process.

Scatter plots
Data can be displayed in graphical format. The default chart is displayed with process time on the X-axis. BioXpert can generate scatter plots where the X-axis can be any measured parameter. This allows charts to be created where one variable is plotted against another variable to find possible correlation. For example Biomass concentration plotted against optical density or substrate vs. product concentrations.Table display
Measured data can be displayed in charts and in tables. The table display shows the actual measurements in time in a tabular format. Multiple tables can be defined per process.

Off-line data
In addition to the on-line measurements, BioXpert can store the results of off-line analysis along with the process data. These analysis results can be used in calculations and in data displays (both tables and charts).

Data export
The measured data can be exported to other programs in general ASCII format and in SYLK format for EXCEL. The graphs can be saved in BMP format to be used in reports and presentations.

Formula
BioXpert has a built in editor of equations for the analysis of data for batch, fed-batch and continuous culture processes. The equation editor allows adding of user defined calculations.

Supervisory Actions
The build-in command language interpreter allows easy definition of user specific time and event based functions and small user programs. Defining profiles for setpoints has never been this easy. Just draw the curve for the setpoint profile and the program will make sure that the setpoint changes according. to this profile.

Drivers
BioXpert XP is OPC compliant. This enables a wide range of industry standard equipment to communicate seamlessly with BioXpert XP without the need to develop a specific driver. This OPC communication standard guarantees easy integration of the data of auxiliary equipment into the software. Next to the OPC functionality, BioXpert XP has built-in drivers to communicate with the following equipment:
Applikon controllers ADI 1010, ADI 1020, ADI 1030, ADI 1060
VG mass spectrometer
Sartorius controllers micro DCU, DCU, DCU 3 (via OPC)
ADDA card for additional annalog and digital input and output signals
